Do you remember the REV UP program? It focused on promoting July 16-20, 2018 as National Disability Voter Registration Week. That was just the first step. We are now getting to the really important part -- actually voting! Voting every year, helping others to get to the polls and making our collective voice heard.
It is easy for anyone to make excuses not to vote, but casting our ballots is a critical way to make our voices heard, both as individual and as a community. Let’s make that extra effort to get the vote out. Remind people when election day is, and encourage them to make the effort to vote. If you have time, you could even help them get to the polls -- or help them request an absentee ballot, if that is what it takes.
We owe it to ourselves to vote, and to contact our elected officials to remind them of our concerns, our interests and our needs. And when you contact them? Be sure to let them know you voted last Election Day and you will be there on the next one as well. Every ballot counts the same. Let’s remind them of that.
